Glaucoma (high pressure eye)
Glaucoma glaucoma is a condition that may affect vision, and results from increased pressure within the eye. Glaucoma affects both eyes often, usually at varying degrees. The appearance of glaucoma in one eye may be faster than the other eye.The eyeball contains a liquid called aqueous humour, which the eye produces continuously, without any leakage through the channels.Glaucoma occurs when fluid is unable to flow properly, leading to increased pressure. This is known as intraocular pressure. This may damage the optic nerve and the retina nerve fibers that line the back of the eye.

Types of glaucoma
There are four main types of glaucoma:Chronic-open-angle glaucoma: This is the most common type of glaucoma, and it speaks very slowly.Primary angle-closure glaucoma: A rare condition that can occur slowly (chronic glaucoma) or it may occur rapidly (acute glaucoma) as sudden and painful eye pressure increases.Secondary glaucoma: This condition occurs mainly as a result of an eye injury or other eye condition, such as uveitis (inflammation of the middle layer of the eye).• Developmental glaucoma (congenital glaucoma): It is a rare, sometimes dangerous, type that affects very young children and is caused by abnormalities in the eye.
Treatment of glaucoma
Glaucoma can be treated with eye droplets, laser therapy or surgery. It is necessary to diagnose the condition early, because any damage to the eye can not be repaired. The treatment is aimed at controlling the condition and reducing the damage in the future. If glaucoma is neglected, it may cause visual impairment. But if the condition is diagnosed and treated early, prevention of vision damage can be better.
Prevention of glaucoma
A regular ophthalmologist's review is useful to ensure that there is no sign of glaucoma, or to detect and treat it early, if any.
Glaucoma prevalence
In many countries, chronic open-angle glaucoma may reach 2% of people over the age of 40 and about 5% of people over the age of 80.The risk of open-angle glaucoma increases in people of black African or Caribbean
black origin
.Some
types of glaucoma, such as acute closed-angle glaucoma, are low in
prevalence; however, people of Asian descent are at higher risk for this
type of glaucoma than other ethnic groups
.
